Energy and Natural Resources in Transition towards Sustainability

Companies in this industry are facing a myriad of challenges as they navigate the journey towards sustainability. Technological, regulatory, and market pressures, coupled with rising input and capital costs, commodity price fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions are just a few of the obstacles in their way. While investment in renewable energy sources is increasing, rising emissions pose a risk of pushing carbon neutrality beyond the widely recognised 2050 deadline. To achieve sustainability, a massive overhaul of infrastructure, such as grids and transmission networks, is required, as well as the adoption of emerging technologies to ramp up energy storage. In addition, energy-hungry developing countries will continue to rely on fossil fuel power plants for the medium term as oil and gas companies diversify. In the resources sector, including agriculture, minerals, and timber, optimising processes through digitalisation, minimising waste, and managing ESG risks and responsibilities are key priorities. Despite the increasingly complex operating environment, there are immense opportunities for those who can rise to the challenges.
